Sask Produce Conference January 19, 2019
May 1 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The SFGA joined with SVGA in hosting a Sask. Produce Conference on January 19, 2019 in Saskatoon. Kaeley Kindrachuk (Sk Ministry of Agriculture) spoke about Bio-Security in Horticulture. Jesse Todd (CFIA) explained the Safe Food for Canadians Act. Dr. Ian Willick (Dept. of Plant Science, U of S) presented Northern Vigor: quality and yield advantages to growing horticultural crops in Saskatchewan. Smiley’s Buffet & Event Centre provided a wonderful lunch. After lunch, Beth Connery (CHC) gave us insight into the Temporary Foreign Workers program and answered many questions we had. Connie Achtymichuk led a discussion about the need for relevant Crop Insurance for fruits and vegetables. The annual meeting was held, followed by ADOPT updates with Forrest Scharf (Provincial Fruit Specialist). We then rode the bus to tour the Synchrotron – very informative and interesting to see! A well attended conference with relevant topics- thanks to all those who attended and to all the presenters. Great job!
